As We Gather
What does it mean to truly trust God? Not when life is easy, but when it is uncertain, when prayers seem unanswered, and when fear takes hold. Today’s readings show us both the weakness of our faith and the faithfulness of our Savior. Jesus meets His disciples in their doubt and speaks peace. Through His Word, He creates in us a faith that trusts Him, even when life does not make sense.
Prayer Before Service
O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, we give You thanks that You have safely brought us to the beginning of this day. Defend us in the same with Your mighty power, and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being ordered by Your governance, may be righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.
Historical Background:
This prayer is adapted from Martin Luther’s Morning Prayer in the Small Catechism (16th century). It has been used widely in Lutheran homes and congregations as a daily prayer, emphasizing trust in God’s protection and guidance—fitting well with the sermon’s theme of living by faith throughout daily life.
