“Whoever feeds on this Bread will live forever.”
Come Hungry
Most folks understand physical hunger. Farmers working long hours in the field know how strength disappears without food. Children become tired and cranky when supper runs late. Our bodies constantly remind us we need nourishment.
Jesus says our souls need nourishment too. The problem is we often try feeding our souls with the wrong things. We look for peace in success, comfort in money, or hope in ourselves. Sin convinces us we can survive without God. Yet the harder we try to fill ourselves with earthly things, the emptier we become.
That is why Jesus gives us His Holy Meal. At His altar Christ does not give empty symbols or mere reminders. He gives His true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of sins. Here weary sinners receive mercy. Here guilty consciences receive peace. Here frightened hearts receive eternal hope.
The Lord’s Supper reminds us Christianity is not about climbing upward toward God. Christianity is about Jesus coming down to us with His gifts.
We come hungry. He fills us. We come burdened. He forgives us. We come weak. He strengthens us. The same Savior who died on the cross now feeds His people with forgiveness, life, and salvation.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for feeding us on Your Body and Blood with Your mercy and forgiveness. Strengthen our faith and keep us close to Your Table until the day we feast with You in Heaven. Amen.
Thought for the Day:
The Lord’s Supper is Jesus’ loving invitation to weary sinners. At His table we receive exactly what we need most, forgiveness.
