Text: Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall
be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Secure in the Promised City
We all know the anxious feeling when the news is bad, when sickness hits a loved one, or when the world seems to spin out of control. We try to find a safe harbor, a lasting peace, but every earthly foundation we lay eventually crumbles. God’s Law reveals that to us. It shows this world is temporary, and we have no power to save or secure ourselves. We are constantly reminded we are merely exiles and pilgrims traveling through a temporary, broken world.
But praise be to God! Jesus, our King of kings, has gone ahead of us not just to a cross, but to a throne, and He has promised us a City with permanent foundations: the New Jerusalem.
This is the pure, unwavering Gospel. We don’t have to earn our citizenship or build our safety. Jesus has already won the battle and paid the price. He established the City for us. Because He lives, we have an eternal inheritance where “the former things have passed away.” We take our comfort and security in knowing the Lamb who sits on the throne has already defeated death and pain. That allows us to face the challenges of today with courage. We are strangers here, but our home is secured and waiting for us. Jesus leads us safely, every day, toward the City He has prepared.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope of the New Jerusalem. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, our King, who has prepared a perfect and lasting place for us. Amen.
Thought for the Day:
We are strangers here, but citizens there. Rest in the certainty of Christ’s eternal promise.
