This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!
Listen to Him
We know what it’s like to listen to many voices at once. Bills speak. Schedules speak. Worries speak. Our own fears and expectations speak loudly, especially when decisions feel heavy. Even things like: family needs, responsibilities, plans for the future, can crowd our hearts until we are no longer sure which voice deserves our attention or trust.
On the Mount of Transfiguration, God cuts through the noise. He doesn’t offer advice or options. He points to Jesus and says, “Listen to Him!” That command exposes a hard truth about us. We often listen first to ourselves. We measure, calculate, protect, and try to stay in control. We want security without surrender, blessing without risk. God’s Law shows us how quickly we drift toward fear over faith.
But God does not leave us there. The Gospel shines from the mountain as brightly as Christ Himself. Jesus is not only the One we are told to listen to, He is the One who goes down the mountain for us and with us. He walks to the cross carrying our fear, our mistrust, and our reluctance to trust God fully. In His death and resurrection, Jesus proves the Father can be trusted completely.
When we listen to Jesus, we hear forgiveness spoken over us. We hear freedom, not pressure. We hear an invitation to trust, even with the parts of life we hold most tightly. Like still waters that calm a restless heart, Jesus’ Word steadies us and teaches us to live not by fear, but by faith.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, quiet our hearts and teach us to listen to You. Help us trust Your promises and rest in Your care. Amen.
Thought for the Day:
When many voices compete for our attention, God gently points us to the one voice that gives life. Listening to Jesus brings peace.
