As We Gather

Today’s message, ‘Confession: What Is It?’ explores the biblical and communal nature of confession. Seeing it is not a private or isolated act, confession is how the Body of Christ heals and is restored. We will explore how sin affects not only the individual but the community, and how God’s forgiveness is the balm that heals us and drives back the power of the devil. The message will look at 1 John 1 and the story of King David’s repentance in 2 Samuel.

Prayer Before Service

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord. Grant us grace to receive Your Word in faith and to glorify You in all we do, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

History:
This prayer is drawn from the traditional opening versicles of Matins and Compline and was widely used in the daily prayer offices of the early Church. It invokes God’s help in preparing the heart and lips to worship in spirit and truth.
