Grace, mercy and peace to you in Jesus name. Amen.
Jesus in the Final Frame: From the Font to Freedom
Not too long ago spent four weeks standing at the font and the waters of Baptism. We’ve learned what Baptism is, what benefits it gives, how it marks us as God’s own, and why it matters every day. Baptism is where the end already broke into your beginning. In those waters, Jesus joined you to His death and resurrection. The Alpha and Omega put His name on you. You are sealed for the Last Day.
Today, the book of Revelation reminds us why Baptism matters. Because the One who claimed you is coming back. Your Baptism means that when the Judge arrives you’re not condemned, you’re covered. When the King rides in you’re not a stranger, you’re family.
As we move toward a new series on Confession, we’ll learn that real confession brings real freedom. The same Lord who washed you clean in Holy Baptism invites you to live clean through daily repentance. Confession isn’t about guilt, it’s about grace, it’s about returning to your Baptism, to the promise that you are His, forgiven and free.
Jesus Is the Alpha and the Omega
He stands at both ends of history, and at the beginning and end of your story. When John saw Him, with eyes like fire and a voice like rushing water, he fell flat in awe. Jesus touched him and said:
Do not be afraid.
I am the First and the Last… I hold the keys of death and Hades.1
This means Jesus doesn’t just know how it all ends, He holds the ending. He’s not surprised by your crisis, not overwhelmed by your regrets, not unprepared for your death. He is Lord of the beginning and the end.
In our Gospel reading today from Luke 14, Jesus reminds us of what life looks like when He is the host: “When you are invited, take the lowest place.” In His kingdom, humility matters. The first are last and the last are first. That’s what it means to trust the Alpha and Omega.
Jesus Is the Lamb of God
Only one in all of heaven and earth was worthy to open the scroll of God’s will. And it wasn’t a king or conqueror, but a Lamb, looking as if slain. The quiet strength of the Lamb silences every boast. “With Your blood You purchased people for God from every tribe and language.”
Psalm 131 calls us to calm and quiet our souls. That is the posture of faith—resting like a child in the arms of a mother. The scroll that tells the end of the world is unsealed by sacrifice, not by force. The same Lamb who rules heaven is the Lamb who forgave you in Baptism.
Jesus Is the Righteous Judge
Now come the trumpets, the beasts, and the bowls. This is where many people close the book. But don’t. If you’ve ever prayed, “How long, Lord?”—Revelation answers. Wrongdoing will not go unpunished. Injustice will not last forever. Jesus is the Judge—and His judgment is just.
Hebrews 13 says, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (v.6). That’s how we live in an uncertain world—not in fear, but in faith. The Judge who will set the world right has already declared you righteous in Baptism. When you confess your sins, you are simply returning to that verdict.
Jesus Is the King of Kings
At last, the heavens open: “I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse… On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” (Revelation 19)
Luke 14 echoes this truth: “All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” The humble will be lifted up—because the King who returns in glory first came in humility, riding to the cross for you.
Jesus Is the Bridegroom
He is not coming to leave us homeless—He is preparing a home. Hebrews 13:14 says, “Here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” Revelation shows us that city: the New Jerusalem. No tears. No death. No sin. Just the Bride with her Groom at the wedding feast.
And here’s the invitation: “Come! All you who are thirsty, come and drink.” This is the language of grace. This is the future of your Baptism. This is why Confession matters—because every time you kneel, every time you hear those words of forgiveness, you are being dressed for the wedding.
Conclusion: From Fear to Faith
Do not fear Revelation. Do not fear the end. The Alpha and Omega, the Lamb, the Judge, the King, the Bridegroom—He is yours. He claimed you in Baptism. He restores you in Confession. And soon, He will welcome you to the feast.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.
