As We Gather
As the fields rest and the hunters hang their gear, we pause to remember the Giver of all good things. God has provided through the land, the labor of hands, and the love of neighbors. Tonight we give thanks, not just for what we’ve gathered, but for the One who gathers us. The same Lord who fed Israel in the wilderness, blessed the hunters’ harvest, and brought us safely through another year, promises to go with us into whatever comes next.
Prayer Before Service
We give You thanks, Almighty God, for all Your blessings. You have fed us from the bounty of the earth, clothed us with Your creation, and filled our lives with Your mercy. Grant that we may walk in Your peace, rejoice in Your gifts, and bear Your goodness into the world; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Historical Notes:
This prayer of St. Clement of Rome (1st century): is among the earliest recorded thanksgiving prayers of the Church. It reflects gratitude for daily provision and calls believers to live thankfully, making it ideal for a Thanksgiving Eve service.
