Nowhere Else to Go
Some days our prayers seem to rise no higher than the ceiling. We ask God for healing, wisdom, or the return of someone we love to the faith, and His answer appears delayed. Like the Canaanite woman, we may wonder why heaven seems so quiet. Our sinful hearts quickly begin to measure God’s love by our circumstances instead of by His promises.
The Gospel reminds us Jesus’ silence is never the absence of His mercy. Jesus never stopped caring for the Canaanite woman, even when His actions were difficult to understand. In the end He praised her faith and granted her request. The same Savior has placed His promises into our ears through His Word, claimed us in Holy Baptism, and continues to strengthen us at His Holy Table.
Those gifts assure us His love is certain even when our emotions are not. When life becomes difficult, we may borrow the woman’s simple prayer: “Lord, help me.” That prayer doesn’t depend on the strength of our faith but on the faithfulness of our Savior. He still hears. He still forgives. He still keeps every promise He has made.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, teach us to trust Your promises when we cannot understand Your timing. Strengthen our faith through Your Word and Sacraments, and keep us close to You. Amen.
Thought for the Day:
When God’s answers seem delayed, His promises remain certain. Jesus’ mercy never fails.
